Tooth extraction means removing a tooth that cannot be saved or that is causing problems. It might be badly decayed, broken below the gum, or an impacted wisdom tooth that never came through properly.

Dr. Vishal Mittal completed his Bachelor’s Degree from Panjab University in 2012 and has mastered in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He has been University topper in his field.

What is a tooth extraction?

Extraction comes in two kinds. A simple extraction removes a tooth you can see above the gum. A surgical extraction deals with a tooth that is impacted or broken, and it needs a surgeon. Both are done with the area numbed.

Warning signs

When a tooth may need to come out

Severe decay

The tooth is too damaged to repair with a filling, crown or root canal.

Impacted teeth

A wisdom tooth stuck under the gum or growing sideways.

Broken teeth

A fracture that runs below the gum line.

Jaw injuries

We also treat maxillofacial fractures.

If your tooth hurts and you are unsure what to do, an examination and an X-ray will tell us whether it can be saved. We try to save it first.

How it works

How tooth extraction works at our clinic

  1. 1
    Examination and X-ray

We look at the tooth, the roots and the bone around them.

  2. 2
    Numbing

Local anesthesia numbs the area before we begin.

  3. 3
    Removal

A simple extraction lifts the tooth out. A surgical extraction first opens the gum or divides the tooth.

  4. 4
    Aftercare instructions

You leave with clear instructions on cleaning, eating and medicines.

  5. 5
    Replacing the tooth

If the gap needs filling, we talk through an implant or a bridge.

What our patients say

“
I had severe pain in my wisdom tooth and went to Dr. Gupta. He found that there were many other issues like cavities in some teeth, so got many things done one after the other. I’m very scared of injections so Dr. Gupta got a special injection which didn’t have a needle. I was the first person on whim he tried it. Thankfully I had no pain. After my RCT was done in my upper and lower two teeth, I had to travel to Gurugram and i realised I had severe pain in my both RCT, , he was continuously in contact with me prescribed medicine for the pain. When i went back to Zirakpur he did the RCT again and put the caps. Now I’m completely fine.He is really a wonderful person more than a very efficient Dentist. Thanks Dr. I will strongly recommend everyone to visit him before going anywhere else.

FAQ

Tooth extraction questions we hear most

Does tooth extraction hurt?

The area is numbed with local anesthesia, so you should not feel pain during it. Some soreness afterwards is normal and passes.

What is a surgical extraction?

It is used for teeth that are impacted or broken below the gum. Dr. Mittal, our Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, performs it.

Do I need to replace an extracted tooth?

Often yes, because a gap lets neighbouring teeth drift. Options include dental implants and bridges, and we discuss them with you.

Can my wisdom tooth be taken out at your clinic?

Yes. Simple and surgical extractions are both done here, including impacted teeth.
